“If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.”

Teaching Philosophy

I embrace teaching as an opportunity to encourage and motivate students in order to enhance their learning experiences inside the classroom, which would lend itself to assisting them in gaining a perception of the world around them. As a teacher, it is my overall mission to guide and assist children throughout their educational journeys by providing stimulating, hands on activities, which will engage children in meaningful learning experiences. It is my belief that children learn best through exploration, while in a safe, comfortable ad positive learning environment. Learning must be exciting, as well as appealing to the interests of the learners in the classroom. Given the knowledge that I have constructed and attained thus far, my philosophy of education encompasses a variety of details that will not only aid children in achieving physical, intellectual and socio-emotional growth, but also help guide the children of today into becoming the respectful and productive leaders of tomorrow.

Teaching is about making a change in the world. In order to do so, we as teachers must give the proper guidance that will lead the students down the correct path of life. With guidance, advice and assistance, I believe that children have the ability to learn through various forms of exploration and discovery, which hopefully instills the idea of continuous lifelong learning. To instill lifelong learning, it is important as an educator to create a safe and warm learning environment.

The surroundings in which young children learn and develop can greatly influence and play a monumental role in their overall growth as a learner, but also their emotional and physical well being in school. Whether it is the layout, décor, discovery centers and documentation of children’s learning, each and every aspect of the classroom, including the teacher, plays a vital function in the shaping and construction of a positive learning environment. It is in these uniquely structured areas that we as eternal learners are enabled to not only grow and flourish, but also accomplish a range of tasks that are of importance to each and every one of us. Thus, in creating a warm, safe environment that allows learning to comfortably take place, children will learn and obtain a rich sense of gratifying knowledge that will undoubtedly lead them to success. Given the knowledge that I have constructed thus far, it is my belief that within a stimulating environment that reflects the image of the child, children will be able construct and build a knowledge based on various learning experiences, which will heighten their curiosity and eagerness to continue learning

Given the significance of the classroom environment, the teacher and children that are apart of this environment are of great importance as well. Building good and healthy relationships is a very important aspect of life. Our very existence depends on it as it leads to further discovery of not only ourselves, but also the ones around us. A good teacher must do the same with his or her students, endeavoring to create solid relationships, which enable a more effective manner in teaching and process of learning. Throughout my studies, I have become aware of bonding as an important means of constructing a warm, safe and trusting learning environment. As I have learned and will continue to discover, we as a prospect educators simply cannot teach children in an appropriate manner until we get to know them, demonstrating that we care about them as a person and connect with them on higher level. By approaching students as individuals who each have a story of their own and actively taking interest into their world, I hope to create connections and bonds with my future students that will make my teaching significant and their learning meaningful. Learning about each child’s unique background and experiences will provide me with the ability to create material that will not only be relevant for the students, but will ultimately also make their learning experiences far more enjoyable.

Through the respect I have for myself, I have modeled polite, respectful behavior and overall professionalism, which in effect has shown them to respect me as an individual and teacher, but also illustrated the importance of these qualities. I believe that teacher’s play a significant role in student’s lives. In my teaching, I personally strive to make the lessons fun, interactive and stimulating, while at the same time educational.

In my teaching, I self-reflect on my role in the class and the actions I use to connect with the students. It is through my self-reflective process that I gain a better understanding of myself, which further helps me progress as a educator. As a future teacher who has learned a great deal of practical information and has had many incredible teaching experiences over the past two years, I am now fully aware of why I am want to be an educator. Throughout the coming years of my teaching career, I will be able to gain more insight and information, which will re-formulate my teaching philosophy, therefore improving my teaching philosophy.
